Family Meetings

Basically, the family meetings I'm advocating as part of the challenge are a hybrid of the meetings advocated for by Jane Nelson (I strongly recommend you read about those here) and the LDS Family Home Evening model (read about it here).  Family Meetings are one of my most favorite things in all the world-- they provide a great time to gather together as a family, regroup and refocus on what's most important to you, and have some fun together.  My kids like them because they're guaranteed to end with dessert.

I recommend doing the following at your weekly meetings:

1) Introduce the Skill you'll be teaching and practicing during the week.
2) Introduce the Character Quality.
3) Brainstorm solutions to any problems identified and added to the agenda during the week.
4) Pull out the calendar and note anything going on in the next week.  This is a good opportunity to discuss household responsibilities and plan menus if you want.  Also, feel free to schedule in some fun family time!

We always begin our family meeting with a song and a prayer and end it with a fun activity and a treat.  This makes it an extra special time for our family, but do what works best for you.
